What is the SnapViewer Snapchat story viewer?

SnapViewer is a Snapchat story viewer that works in any browser. You type the username of a public profile, and the page shows that profile's card (name, bio, subscriber count and picture), its current public Story, its saved Highlights and its Spotlight videos. Each snap can be played in the page and saved as the file Snapchat serves.

There is no account to create, no Snapchat login and nothing to install. The tool reads only what Snapchat already shows to everyone on a public profile page, the same content you would see at snapchat.com/@username, laid out so you can watch and save it quickly.

Who is it for?

People without Snapchat who want to watch a creator, a brand or a news account that posts in public. People on a laptop where the app is not installed. Creators who want a clean copy of their own public Story. And anyone who wants to check what their public profile looks like to a stranger with no account.

What it is not

It is not a way into accounts. SnapViewer has no password field, no "unlock" button and no paid tier that shows more. If a profile is personal or a Story is shared with friends only, the answer is the same for everyone: there is nothing public to show, and we say so instead of guessing.

Which Snapchat Stories can you view?

Only public ones. A Story is public when its owner has a public profile or has set My Story to Everyone. Snap's own privacy page explains the setting this way.

“If you set your My Story Friends to be viewable by ‘Everyone’ in Settings, your My Story is considered public and will be visible to anyone.”

Stories shared with friends only, private accounts, chats, Memories, Snap Map locations and friend lists are never visible to SnapViewer or to any honest website. Pages that promise them are a red flag; our guide on whether Snapchat viewer sites are safe lists the warning signs.

Comparison: SnapViewer shows the profile card, Story, Highlights and Spotlight of public profiles, and nothing of private accounts

A public profile is something its owner opts into. Snapchat's help page on Public Profile features lists a photo, bio, Stories, a subscriber count and a website among the things a public account can show. Those are exactly the fields our Snapchat story viewer reads, and nothing beyond them.

Can you view Snapchat stories anonymously?

SnapViewer never logs in to Snapchat, so your own account is not used to open the Story and your name is not added to anyone's viewer list by us. Our server fetches the public profile page the way a browser with no account would.

To be precise about the limits: the previews and videos you play load from Snapchat's media servers, which receive an ordinary web request like any public image. We cannot see or promise what Snapchat records on its own servers. The step-by-step guide on viewing Snapchat stories without an account covers this in detail.

Inside the app, the owner of a public Story can open a viewer list. Snapchat describes who appears there in its help article on public Story insights.

“The friends, followers, and other Snapchatters who viewed your Story are listed under Viewers”

That list names Snapchatters, meaning signed-in accounts. SnapViewer does not use one. We still avoid the words "100% anonymous" or "undetectable", because only Snapchat knows what it counts on its side. Our guide on who viewed my Snapchat Story explains the viewer list from the owner's side.

What does the viewer show for a profile?

Measured with the tool on 2026-10-30. Snapchat decides the file sizes; we do not upscale anything.
Tab or cardWhat you seeSaved as
Profile cardDisplay name, @username, subscribers, category, bio, websiteProfile picture as JPG (up to 1080×1080 in our tests)
StoryEvery public Story snap with its date, photo or videoMP4 or JPG per snap
SpotlightRecent Spotlight videos with views, length and upload dateMP4 (540×960 in our tests)
HighlightsSaved Highlights by title, then each snap in orderMP4 or JPG per snap

The Snapchat profile viewer focuses on the card, the Highlights viewer opens straight on the Highlights tab, and the Snapchat Spotlight downloader also accepts a single Spotlight link.

How many snaps does one lookup list?

Up to 150 Story snaps, oldest first; up to 30 Highlights with up to 40 snaps each; and up to 60 Spotlight videos. Most profiles stay far below them. In our test of one very large public profile, the Story tab listed 112 snaps and the Spotlight tab 7 videos, while 18 Highlights were trimmed to 40 snaps each.

What about personal accounts?

A personal account that has not opted into a public profile shows only its display name and, when Snapchat includes it, the Bitmoji. There is no Story, no Highlights and no Spotlight to list, and the viewer says so plainly. The Snapchat profile picture viewer covers the picture and the Bitmoji on their own.

Almost any way a public profile is shared. You do not need to clean the input first: the box strips the @, the domain and the extra path, then opens the right profile. A Spotlight or Highlight link opens that one item instead of the whole list.

Input forms the tool accepts, checked against snapchat.com on 2026-10-30.

Do not know the exact handle? Display names are not unique, so start with the Snapchat username search, which explains how handles differ from names and how to check a guess before you look it up.

How long do public Stories stay visible?

Until Snapchat removes them. Snap says most Stories delete after 24 hours unless they are saved to a public profile.

“Most Stories are set to delete after 24 hours unless you change the settings, save the Story to your Public Profile, or you or a Friend saves it in Chat.”

In our own test on 2026-10-30, one large public profile still listed Story snaps posted up to about six days earlier, so public profiles can keep snaps longer. When a snap is gone from Snapchat, it is gone from SnapViewer too. Read how long Snapchat Stories last for the details.

Saved Stories are a separate case. Snapchat's help article on adding a Story to a Public Profile notes that "Only videos that are proactively saved will remain in your Public Profile." Those saved collections are what our Highlights tab lists, each with its title and cover.

No Snapchat story viewer can bring back a snap the owner deleted or let expire. Any site that offers a "story history" for a profile is showing copies it kept, or nothing at all. SnapViewer keeps no copies, so it only ever shows what Snapchat lists right now.

How are Highlights and Spotlight different from a Story?

They live longer and serve another purpose. A Story is the running stream of recent snaps. Highlights are Stories the owner chose to keep on the profile, grouped under a title. Spotlight is Snapchat's public video feed, where short videos are shown to people who do not follow the creator.

“Snaps and Comments submitted to Spotlight are public and other Snapchatters may be able to share them both on and off Snapchat or even ‘Remix’ Spotlight Snaps.”

Snap adds on the same page that Spotlight submissions are "stored on our servers until you delete them and may be visible on Snapchat for long periods of time." That is why a creator's Spotlight tab often reaches further back than the Story tab. Our tab shows views, length and upload date for each video.

Want a deeper look at each feed? Read what Snapchat Spotlight is, or open the Snapchat Highlights viewer, which starts on the Highlights tab and lets you jump through each title in order.

What quality are the saved files?

Exactly the quality Snapchat serves, nothing more. Snapchat stores compact files that load fast on phones, so you will not find 1080p or 4K versions, and we never relabel a file as HD.

  • Profile picture: up to 1080×1080 JPG (128 KB for one account; 362×362 for another), while Snapchat's page shows a 90-pixel copy

Videos are MP4 files with AAC sound, a container every modern phone and computer plays without extra apps; MDN's page on media container formats explains why MP4 is so widely supported. Photos are ordinary JPG files.

Want only the videos? The Snapchat video downloader puts videos first, and Snapchat download formats compares every file type.

How does saving work, and what are the files called?

Each snap has its own Download button, marked MP4 or JPG. The file comes straight from Snapchat's media servers through a signed SnapViewer link, so we never keep a copy. The link is valid for one hour; after that it answers that the link expired, and a fresh lookup gives new links.

Readable file names

  • Story snap: username_story_20261030-142501_3.mp4 (date and time of the snap, then its number)
  • Spotlight video: username_spotlight_<id>.mp4
  • Highlight snap: username_<highlight title>_5.jpg
  • Profile picture: username_profile_picture.jpg

Saving a whole tab

Each tab also has a Save all button that downloads the snaps one by one, with a short pause between files. Your browser may ask once whether the site may save several files; allow it and the rest follow. There is no ZIP: separate files open faster on a phone and need no unpacking app.

Where the files land depends on the device and browser. The guide where Snapchat downloads go covers each one, and the Snapchat story downloader page walks through saving a full Story.

Does it work on iPhone, Android and PC?

Yes. SnapViewer is a web page, so it runs in Safari, Chrome, Edge or Firefox on any phone, tablet or computer. Saved files land in your browser's download folder; on iPhone that is Files › Downloads.

Default download locations; each browser lets you change them in its settings.

Why does a profile show nothing?

Usually because it is not public or has nothing public right now. The most common reasons:

  • It is a personal account: Snapchat shows only the name and Bitmoji to the public.
  • The profile is public but has no Story at the moment; Highlights and Spotlight may still be there.
  • The username is misspelled or was changed. Try the Snapchat username search.
  • Snapchat did not answer in time. Wait a minute and try again.

One more case: lookups of the same username are cached for up to five minutes, so a snap posted a moment ago may need a short wait before it appears. If many lookups arrive at once, the tool asks you to pause briefly instead of hammering Snapchat.

The guide why a Snapchat profile shows nothing goes through each case.

Viewing content its owner made public is what a public profile is for. Saving and reusing it is a different matter: the snaps belong to their creators. Keep saved files for personal viewing, ask before reposting, and never use the tool to follow or harass someone.

Using a Snapchat story viewer with respect

  • Watch public posts, not people: do not use any Snapchat story viewer to keep tabs on an ex, a classmate or a colleague.
  • Credit the creator and ask first if you want to share a saved snap anywhere else.
  • Do not re-upload someone's Spotlight video as your own.
  • Snapchat is for users aged 13 and over; be careful with content that may come from minors.

SnapViewer is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to Snap Inc. Account owners can ask us to stop showing their public profile on SnapViewer; see the copyright and opt-out page.

Frequently asked questions

Is SnapViewer a free Snapchat story viewer?

Yes. It is free, needs no account and has no limit on how many public profiles you look up, apart from a short pause if too many lookups arrive at once.

Can I view private Snapchat stories?

No. Only public profiles and Stories set to Everyone can be shown. Friends-only Stories and private accounts are out of reach, for us and for any honest website.

Will the person know I viewed their Story?

SnapViewer never logs in, so your Snapchat account is not used and your name is not shown to them by us. We cannot speak for what Snapchat records on its own servers.

Do I need the Snapchat app or an account?

No. Everything runs in your browser. You need the app only to post or to see friends' Stories.

Can I download Snapchat Stories with this viewer?

Yes. Every snap has a Download button that saves the MP4 or JPG Snapchat serves, under a readable file name. Links work for one hour.

Can I save every snap of a Story at once?

Yes, with the Save all button on each tab. It saves the snaps one by one with a short pause; your browser may ask once to allow several downloads. There is no ZIP file.

Can I view Snapchat Highlights and Spotlight too?

Yes. They have their own tabs next to the Story. You can also paste a single snapchat.com/spotlight/ link.

How many snaps can one lookup show?

Up to 150 Story snaps, up to 30 Highlights with up to 40 snaps each, and up to 60 Spotlight videos. Most public profiles have far fewer.

Why is the video quality low?

Snapchat stores compact files for fast playback; for example 480×270 for one Story video and 540×960 for Spotlight in our tests. We save that file unchanged and never upscale it.

Why did my download link stop working?

Download links are signed and expire after one hour. Look the username up again and the page gives you fresh links to the snaps Snapchat still lists.

Does SnapViewer keep copies of the snaps?

No. Files stream from Snapchat's servers through our link and nothing is stored. Lookup results are cached for up to five minutes, then dropped.

Can I see someone's location or friend list?

No. Snap Map locations, friend lists, chats and Memories are private. SnapViewer never shows them and never will.

Is SnapViewer part of Snapchat?

No. SnapViewer is an independent tool and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to Snap Inc.

How do I stop my profile from appearing on SnapViewer?

Email us from the contact page with your username and a way to confirm you own it. After that, the tool refuses your profile and any download link already handed out stops working.
